beth grew up in southeastern pennsylvania on a small farm. she attended washington college in chestertown, maryland, where she met her husband jeff. after raising three children in kennett square, pennsylvania, they recently moved to jeff’s family farm on the eastern shore of maryland. with a decision to convert the farm from conventional to organic she volunteered to mow the fields. this task gives her the chance to observe mother nature from a perspective that influences her vision. settled in her new home, beth has set out to explore her surroundings.
for beth, visual clutter represents the clamor that represents everyday life. so she aims to keep her compositions simple. symmetry is a hallmark of her artistic sense. she often uses negative space to balance her images - using fog, perspective, and artful composition to keep out distractions. her work is either black and white - for its simplicity, in that color can distract - or desaturated color images, which present a soft visual calm.
